Description

Waniguchi is a yokai inspired by the temple gong of the same name, traditionally found at shrine entrances. This creature is depicted with the distinctive gong as its head, while its body resembles a four‑legged beast—part crocodile, part fish—creating a unique hybrid form seen in old folklore illustrations. The combination of sacred object and animalistic body gives Waniguchi an unusual presence, both ceremonial and feral.

鰐口は神社の拝殿前に吊るされる仏具「鰐口」を頭部に持つ妖怪で、古い妖怪画では鰐のようでもあり魚のようでもある四足歩行の姿で描かれています。 神具と獣の身体が組み合わさった独特の造形は、神聖さと野性味が同居する不思議な存在感を生み出します。
