Hossu is a yokai based on the Buddhist dusting brush of the same name, traditionally used by monks during rituals. In modern folklore collections, it is said that a worn‑out hossu may come to life at night and begin dancing, taking on a cheerful and endearing personality. This interpretation follows that playful depiction, giving the creature a lively charm while retaining the recognizable form of the ritual tool.
