Their origins trace back to a passage in Tsurezuregusa, where long‑used instruments are said to become tsukumogami. In this interpretation, Biwa appears lively and expressive, almost like a playful pet, while Kotofurunushi maintains a stubborn, dignified presence—creating a charming contrast between the two. この二体セットは、徒然草の一節をもとに描かれた楽器の付喪神、琵琶 と 琴古主（ことふるぬし） を表現したものです。 長年使われた楽器が妖怪化するという伝承に基づき、琵琶は陽気で愛らしく、まるでペットのように振る舞い、頑固な琴古主の扱いに少してこづっているような微笑ましい関係性を表しています。 楽器部分は細部まで丁寧に再現され、二体が並ぶことで音楽と妖怪の世界観が豊かに広がります。
