Description
The majestic Fujin Raijin Zu Byobu painted by Tawaraya Sotatsu depicts the Wind and Thunder Gods. Although they are deities, the boundary between gods and yokai is historically ambiguous. Raijin, commonly known as the thunder god, carries a large raiko—a ring of drums used to create thunder—and holds drumsticks in both hands. The flowing johaku cloth and dynamic hair shape help recreate his powerful, energetic appearance.

俵屋宗達により描かれた壮大な『風神雷神図屏風』。 風神雷神は字のごとく神様ですが、古来中国では鬼は神を含めた意味合いがあるとされ、 またどちらもその存在が見えず人知を超えた存在であるため、 神様と妖怪の境目はかなりあいまいなようです。 一般的に雷様と呼ばれる雷神は、大きな雷鼓（らいこ）を携え、両手には撥を持つ風貌。 風にたなびく条帛（じょうはく）や髪の形状で、より躍動的なイメージを再現しています。
